China Rivers Project is Last Descent’s non-profit partner in the United States. Founded by Kristen McDonald and Travis Winn in 2007, its mission is to protect China’s river heritage for people and wildlife and to foster river-based recreation in China. Basically, China Rivers Project is a product of our belief that river recreation can also be the basis for drawing awareness to river resources, inspiring dialogue across domestic and international social boundaries, and in general bringing people together in a positive way to inspire innovative and constructive approaches to solving social and environmental problems. China Rivers Project will organize education-oriented trips and training trips on some of China’s most biologically and culturally rich rivers, providing opportunities for decision makers, scientists, and local community members and others to dialogue about the value of healthy, free-flowing rivers.
