SAFETY
Last Descents takes every precaution to insure the safety of every participant by using state of the art equipment and only the most qualified guides. All of our guides and oarsmen are trained in wilderness first aid and river rescue. Our on and off water safety protocols are based on those in Grand Canyon and other commercially run rivers in the United States. Each trip starts out with a significant safety talk covering what to do in case you fall in, the raft flips, or your boat gets wrapped on a rock. Passengers are fitted into Type V lifejackets, and in some cases helmets, and once on the water, guides check that lifejackets remain well fitted and review other safety issues above challenging sections. On first descent expeditions and more difficult whitewater runs, safety kayakers assist in rescues and scout ahead for difficult rapids.
